It’s always nice to hear good things about yourself. In answer to his question on why I never made the Tour and why I write this blog and got into teaching…modern golf instruction to too mentally intrusive and takes away the natural instincts of actually playing the game.

Just thought I’d throw this out, as a guy who has been acquainted with Monte for several years, and has played a round of golf with him as well…
He has a funny sense of humor, but doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who would make up anything like this for publicity’s sake. He holds integrity in golf highly.
I’ve seen him smash the ball from his knees a ridiculous distance, far out-distancing my best ever tee shot. I bet he can hit it from his knees father than most PGA Tour players’ average driving distance.
I played with him at the Oxmoor Valley Valley course (part of the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Trail in Alabama), and he hit the longest tee shot I’ve ever seen. On the 18th hole, it’s an uphill slight dogleg right 363 from the whites, and his shot landed at the bottom of the elevated green, probably 350 yard total. Total freakshow all day long. He shot well below par that day. One buddy who played that day played a couple years later with Lee Westwood at the LA Open Pro-Am (and I walked inside the ropes with them), and has said on several occasions that Monte was more impressive, and couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t playing on the big tour. We still talk about that round in Alabama years later.
